Founded on April 26, 1923, Northeast University is a university with a glorious tradition of patriotism. From August 1928 to January 1937, general Zhang Xueliang, a famous patriotic general, concurrently served as the president. After the September 18th Incident in 1931, Northeastern University was forced to run a school in exile. In March 1949, Shenyang Institute of technology was established on the basis of the Institute of technology and the College of Science (part) of Northeast University. In August 1950, it was named Northeast Institute of technology. In March 1993, it was renamed Northeast University. In January 1997, the former Shenyang Gold Institute was incorporated into Northeast University and transferred to a higher school directly under the Ministry of education in September 1998. The university is one of the first batch of "211 Project" and "985 Project" in the country Key universities entered the ranks of first-class universities in September 2017. Northeast University is located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, the central city of Northeast China, and has a Qinhuangdao branch of Northeast University in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province.
